Social Media Anxiety — Wait, that’s a thing?
Social Media provides a place for endless outlets. For some it’s a place to vent, others it’s somewhere to show of their latest outfits, tips and tricks (#lifehacks), or maybe just simply a place to go to connect. While it offers so much opportunity, with it comes that little annoying voice in your head, yep… that’s the one — anxiety.
We all have that #socialmediaanxiety from time to time if not ALL THE TIME. Worrying about what time is the right time to post in Instagram or if that joke you posted on Twitter was witty enough to at least make SOMEONE laugh.
To an extent it’s normal, in the society we live in today we’re bound to worry about what others think from time to time. With that being said, anxiety has a way of consuming people about the littlest of things. It’s so easy to get caught up in what other people are doing, how they look or the attention they get and question yourself.
Mental health and social media go hand in hand in today’s society and it’s so scary as a mother to see the unhealthy direction it is heading, especially as I catch myself feeling those insecurities. I worry about how my son will feel when he’s a teenager and the pressure these kids are feeling. No child should ever feel they aren’t good enough or like they want to be someone else.
*PSA* YOU are just as amazing at that girl/guy you follow on Instagram even if you don’t get 10k likes on your post!!
Being envious, maybe even a little bit of jealousy is one thing, but when you find yourself obsessing, or falling into the “scroll hole” and not looking up for hours…

Well… That’s when a social media detox is in order.

Take breaks when you need too. Enjoy nature. Laugh with your partners. Play with your kids. Don’t let social media consume you.
